Our education programme targets underprivileged children in the remote desert regions of Turkana, Kenya. We have partnered with Transform Communities Initiative (TCI) who currently support 8 newly established nursery / primary schools with 1,100 children being enrolled.
Heartbeat Africa currently provides daily porridge to over 600 children across 5 of these nursery schools. The provision of this daily porridge has had a significant impact through improving school attendance which will help towards the long-term goal of breaking the poverty cycle in this region.
Breaking the Poverty Cycle
Many of the children attending these schools are the first in their families to be accessing an education. School attendance is also helping to reduce and prevent the ongoing cultural practices of child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).
Heartbeat Africa aims to increase our support towards this vital Education Support Programme and we are currently raising funds towards the provision of school materials and essentials such as uniforms, textbooks, stationery and classroom equipment.
